About Mark

Alex, Mexico, January 2007, two months before official diagnosis

In March of 2007, at the age of 30 months, our son Alex was diagnosed on the autistic spectrum. Over the next four years Alex received speech and language therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and ABA and play-based therapy.  He was put on a gluten and dairy free diet and, at one time or another, received over 50 different supplements, vitamins, probiotics, and other biomedical treatments in order to heal the gastrointestinal and immunological problems that were found to exist in his system.  He is now a typically developing 8-year-old boy with no traces of his former diagnosis.  He has a great sense of humor, is crazy about sports (especially baseball), and is looking forward to 1st grade.

Alex’s recovery relied on the work of dedicated therapists, innovative doctors, fantastic schools, and our family being able to financially and emotionally support his needs over that period.  Through the process I have learned a great deal about autism, its causes, its treatment, and the misconceptions that surround this area.  Through this blog, I hope to share some of that knowledge with those who will benefit.

Regards,
